School of Biological Sciences

The School of Biological Sciences aims to enhance the way we use technology in research, food security, microbiology, ecosystem biology, sustainability and many other related areas. The School prides itself on providing innovative teaching methods and a high-tech learning environment for our students.

The School of Biological Sciences is part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. It is made up of three research disciplines, including Ecosystems Biology & Sustainability, Food Safety & Nutrition, and Microbes & Pathogen Biology.

Most staff within the School are also members of the Institute for Global Food Security GRI: the Institute is ranked No 1 in the UK for research intensity in Agriculture, Veterinary and Food Sciences (REF 2014).

The School of Biological Sciences is seeking to recruit world-class scholars with an outstanding and recognised research record in the field of biological sciences. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of obtaining research council grant funding or equivalent.

Applicants’ research should complement the on-going activities of the School’s Ecosystem Biology and Sustainability research theme and also align with the Institute for Global Food Security. Additionally, applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to our undergraduate and postgraduate education programmes, particularly in Ecological Management and Conservation Biology and Animal Behaviour and Welfare. Applicants must have a willingness to engage in the broader administration and management of taught degree programmes within the School.

The posts will complement and extend the ongoing research and teaching programmes within the School and Institute.

The successful candidate will have:

- BSc in Biological Sciences or related subject area.
- PhD in Biological Sciences or related subject area.
- A publication record in peer reviewed journals papers, including at a minimum of 3* rating, commensurate 
with experience.
- Research interests that are sustainable and which complement or enhance research activities of School & IGFS in area of Ecosystem Biology and Sustainability
- A minimum of 3 years research experience in a relevant field.
- A track record of applying for and securing research funds commensurate with experience
- Relevant university teaching experience in Biological Sciences commensurate with career standing.

Salary scale: £36,261 to £39,610 per annum
