Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term position as a Research Associate (Industry Liaison) within the Centre for Research in Medical Devices (CÚRAM) at the National University of Ireland, Galway. This position is is available from January 2019 to contract end date of 31st December 2020. This position is funded by Science Foundation Ireland.
Organisation: The Centre for Research in Medical Devices (CÚRAM – www.curamdevices.ie) is a national, SFI funded, €49.6m research centre that brings together researchers from NUI Galway, University College Dublin, Dublin City University, University of Limerick, University College Cork, Trinity College Dublin and Royal College of Surgeons Ireland. The prime objective for CÚRAM is to radically improve health outcomes for patients by developing innovative implantable ‘smart’ medical devices to treat major unmet medical needs. Implants will be designed and manufactured to respond to the body’s environment and to deliver therapeutic agents, such as drugs, exactly where needed. Cutting-edge science will develop devices using the very latest research from biomaterials, stem cells and drug delivery and the support of strong clinical collaborations, industry partners and hospital groups to enable rapid translation to the clinic.
The successful candidate will be responsible for working with industry research partners in the development of new industry-focused research projects based on industry requirements and engaging and establishing relationships with new industrial partners and promotion and marketing of the Centre.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Identify and engage with new industry partners to develop new research projects within CÚRAM.
Design and develop new scientific projects based on industry proposals.
Work with the CÚRAM Funded Investigators on the managing of the collaborative projects with industry.
Promote and showcase the platform research portfolio to potential industry partners.
Work with state agencies (such as Enterprise Ireland and the IDA) and their overseas representatives to identify new partners to be engaged in the Centre.
Work with the Technology Transfer Office in NUI Galway and partner institutions to identify potential IP to be developed by CÚRAM with new industry partners.
Represent the research activities of CÚRAM as required at local, national and international events.
Development of appropriate marketing materials (including website) and events to target new industry partners
- A postgraduate qualification or at least 2 years equivalent experience in the medical devices field with a track record of demonstrable accomplishments.
- Experience in the writing of research proposals and scientific outputs.
- Experience in commercialisation activities and understanding of IP generation and protection process is necessary.
- Effective negotiation and strong time and project management skills as well as being available to travel nationally and internationally on a regular basis.
- Excellent organisational, communication and analytical skills are essential
- Marketing and/or sales experience
- Excellent IT skills including MS PowerPoint, Outlook and MS Excel.
Salary: €39,530 - €48,206 per annum
Start date: Position is available from 1st January 2019
