THE MAX PLANCK SCHOOLS ARE A JOINT INITIATIVE BETWEEN GERMAN UNIVERSITIES AND GERMAN RESEARCH ORGANIZATIONS.
By linking the dispersed excellence of German researchers in the fields of cognition, matter to life, and photonics, the MAX PLANCK SCHOOLS explore new paths in postgraduate education in Germany. A unique network of 50 outstanding scientists per school with strong connections to both academia and industry forms the basis for a career-oriented education.

The Max Planck Schools invite outstanding students holding a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent) to the following postgraduate schools offering a comprehensive PhD program:
Max Planck School of Cognition:
focusing on areas related to cognition such as linguistics, artificial intelligence, neurobiology, cognitive neuroscience/neuroscience, mathematics, neurology, psychiatry, philosophy, and psychology.
Max Planck School Matter to Life:
focusing on areas related to chemistry, biochemistry, material sciences, molecular systems engineering, physics, molecular cell biology, bioengineering or a related subject.
Max Planck School of Photonics:
focusing on areas related to physics, engineering or any other area with a significant exposure to photonic-related topics.

The Max Planck Schools invite highly talented Bachelor’s or Master’s graduates from all over the world to apply to one of our competitive PhD programs in which you will become part of an exciting interdisciplinary research network. You will be able to pursue topics at the forefront of fundamental and applied research and benefit from close mentorship by internationally renowned researchers. Furthermore, excellent research infrastructure at our various partner sites will provide you with the environment you will need to focus on your research interests and build your academic career. Admission to one of the Max Planck Schools comes with funding for up to five years. This funding ensures that you can devote yourself entirely to your scientific work.
Applications open October 15 and November 1, 2018 for the 2019 school year. Applicants will be selected based on their academic qualifications, personal references, research experience and interests, and suitability to the program.
