The Tulane National Primate Research Center (the Center) seeks an accomplished investigator and dynamic leader for the positions of Chair for the Division of Microbiology.

The arrival of Jay Rappaport, the Center’s new Director and Chief Scientific Officer, has brought energy and ambition to leverage the Center’s strength and excellence in HIV/AIDS research with cultivating other therapeutic areas and developing collaborations and synergies with Tulane University’s School of Medicine, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, and the School of Science and Engineering. President Michael Fitts is fiercely committed to the Center’s trajectory with the University investing over $13 million to strengthen the Center’s infrastructure, build significant new lab space, and purchase equipment, e.g,. a state-of-the-art PET/CT scanner. The Center has one of the largest colonies of nonhuman primates, and research resources include BLS2/ABSL2 and BSL3/ABSL3 facilities. Core services are excellent, and other animal models are also available. With a collection of world-class research scientists, talented administrative staff, and strong leadership, the Center is poised to grow and to continue to thrive.

The Chair will facilitate growth in research, and foster intra-TNPRC and Tulane-wide collaborations. As members of the Center’s Executive Committee reporting directly to Dr. Rappaport, the most compelling candidates will bring their own federally funded research programs to the Center and will possess strong leadership and management abilities and communication skills. The Chair will lead the future development of their Division in terms of research areas and faculty with an emphasis on mentoring and guiding fellow researchers.

The successful candidate will be given an academic appointment commensurate either in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Tulane University School of Medicine or in the Department of Tropical Medicine of the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. The Center will offer attractive startup packages for the Division Chair that will include ample laboratory and office space and administrative assistance.
