The UPMC Hillman Cancer Center located at the University of Pittsburgh, celebrating its 27th year as a leading center for cancer research, is recruiting outstanding faculty at the Research Assistant Professor outside tenure stream to assist Dr. Robert L. Ferris in daily management of an energetic and prolific laboratory.

The Ferris laboratory as part of the Cancer Immunology Program and Tumor Microenvironment Center has a long-standing track-record of outstanding research in many areas of oncology, including cancer biology, immunotherapy, radiation oncology and biomarker research. The laboratory has access to specimens for many of UPMC’s innovative clinical trials, allowing the correlative specimen being studied for biomarkers of response or prognosis. In addition, there is regular access to human tumor and lymphocyte specimens for ex-vivo experiments. This is complemented by an active mouse laboratory. Recently, single cell RNA sequencing has been added to the portfolio of routine lab techniques. Heavy use of cellular immunology and flow cytometry is a requirement this position.

We are seeking a competitive candidate who is highly self-motivated and has a strong background in immunology, molecular biology, cancer biology or related field. Additional expertise in bioinformatics or computational biology is desirable. The candidate should possess a PhD, MD or both. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Our laboratory is dynamic, diverse, supportive and productive. It offers excellent opportunities for publication, attendance at scientific meetings, and career advancement.

Hillman Cancer Center serves a catchment area of 29 Western Pennsylvania counties and provides unique opportunities to collaborate with clinical and translational research programs involved in cancer patient care.
