SURGICAL PATHOLOGIST WITH SPECIALTY EXPERTISE IN BONE AND SOFT TISSUE PATHOLOGYUNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH MEDICAL CENTER
The Division of Anatomic Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Shadyside Campus is seeking an outstanding candidate for an Open Rank academic surgical pathologist (tenure or non-tenure depending on qualifications) with specialty interest in Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology. The University of Pittsburgh is an exclusive subspecialty anatomic pathology practice and this individual would participate primarily in our Center of Excellence (COE) in Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology. The COE processes over 1,000 sarcomas per year and is a local and regional consultation reference laboratory for Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and West Virginia. Strong support is provided by comprehensive laboratories in immunohistochemistry, molecular genetics pathology with next generation sequencing, and formal cytogenetics. Clinical oncologic collaboration is extensive and also provided through the divisions of medical oncology and musculoskeletal surgery. An academic orientation is required with a focus on translational research. A one year fellowship in Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology is also active within this Center of Excellence. Service in other subspecialty areas of practice is also possible as part of the candidates’ service requirement e.g. cytopathology.
The candidate should be Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology with subspecialty training in musculoskeletal pathology. The candidate must be eligible for a Pennsylvania medical license. A collaborative spirit and strong interpersonal skills are vital. A record of a commitment to scholarly activities is essential including teaching, research, and publications. The Department would provide ample startup resources and off service time to assure a successful academic career.
