POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH SCIENTIST IN INTEGRATIVE CARDIAC PATHOPHYSIOLOGY

The Tsai Lab at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons, Division of Cardiology, seeks an outstanding, highly motivated, postdoctoral scientist to study the molecular pathophysiology of right heart failure. We focus on elucidating myocardial signaling pathways important in pathologic right ventricular remodeling and biventricular failure. Using an integrative molecular physiology approach that spans from molecular genetics to molecular electrophysiology to invasive hemodynamics and advanced cardiac imaging, we employ cell culture systems, transgenic and surgical animal models, and patient biological samples in our studies. Our overall goal is to develop novel therapeutic approaches for treating heart failure, in particular preventing right ventricular dysfunction and enabling right ventricular functional recovery.

Candidates must have a PhD in Molecular Biology, Cellular & Molecular Physiology, Cardiovascular Physiology, or an equivalent field and at least 2 years of post-doctoral research training. Demonstrated expertise in cardiac physiology and primary cell culture are absolute requirements. The successful applicant will have significant experimental background in myocyte biology, molecular genetics, transgenic and surgical animal models of heart failure, and mouse echocardiography. The applicant should be open-minded, energetic, collaborative, and highly motivated. Primary responsibilities will be in experimental design, execution, and analysis as well as manuscript writing. Other responsibilities include management of mouse colonies, organization of lab operations, and supervision of research trainees. The candidate must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively. Verbal and written English fluency is required. Candidates should have strong organizational and communication skills.

Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and in accordance with University guidelines.

Applicants should email a personal research statement, CV, and contact information for 3 referees to Dr. Emily J. Tsai (emily.tsai@columbia.edu)
