University Professor of Systemic Neurosciences and Mental Health
(pay grade W2 LBesG, six-year contract with tenure track)
The position is part of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy and involves close cooperation with the German Resilience Center (DRZ). We are looking for a specialist with leadership experience, outstanding communication skills and network competence, who is willing to represent the field of mental health and mental diseases in research, teaching (including further academic training) and patient care.
The academic focus of this position will include research in systemic neurosciences in both humans and/or animals, the development of psychological or neurobiological interventions or systems-neuroscience or neurobiological mechanisms of therapy response prediction. Excellent scientific achievements are considered a prerequisite for this position and must be demonstrated by a doctorate and nationally and internationally visible publications as well as success in competitive third-party funding procedures.
The successful applicant is willing to collaborate in the context of translational research in order to successfully apply his or her expertise and contribute to the further development of the existing research structures (Focus Program Translational Neurosciences (FTN) and the German Resilience Center) and the collaborative research centers (e.g. CRC 1080, CRC 1193).
In view of the clinical care tasks, the professorship involves a leadership role in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy. Aside from a degree in human medicine, a residency training in psychiatry and psychotherapy is therefore required.
The professorship will also involve comprehensive participation in teaching students and the willingness to assure further academic training. The position therefore requires demonstrable teaching competence as well as further academic achievements in accordance with § 49 (1) no. 4a of the Higher Education Act of Rhineland-Palatinate (Hochschulgesetz Rheinland-Pfalz).
The professorship is financed by the Federal-Government-Länder Tenure-Track Program to support young academics. Researchers in early phases of their career are therefore especially invited to apply for this position. Applicants must meet all general legal requirements as well as those laid out specifically in § 49 of the Higher Education Act of Rhineland-Palatinate. All programs are taught in German. German language proficiency is therefore required.
The position constitutes a private law employment relationship to the University Medical Center of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The professorship will initially be filled for a period of six years. After this period the position will be converted to a tenured professorship (W2 LBesG), provided the holder of the position meets the relevant regulations of higher education law (evaluation procedure) as well as the general legal requirements.
