Salary: Grade 7: £32,236 - £39,609 with a discretionary range to £43,267 p.a.
The Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics, one of the worlds leading research institutes in the field of human genetics, is seeking a FACS Facility Manager to be responsible for running, maintaining, and developing the Centres FACS core services.
Reporting to the Head of the Chromosome Dynamics Core Facility, you will be responsible for establishing working protocols, training users, organising user liaison forums, managing bookings, and ensuring all required maintenance and development is undertaken to maintain an effective service. You will interact with the Centres scientists directly, supporting a wide range of research programmes in cell and molecular biology, immunology, and virology, and you will also act as a focal point for collaborations between scientific groups.
You will have a PhD (or close to completion) or extensive equivalent experience in a relevant subject in biological sciences with basic knowledge of cell biology, experience with multi-colour, multi-dimensional flow cytometric equipment, and demonstrable hands-on experience in producing high quality, high-throughput cell sorting and flow cytometric analysis, using a variety of sample sources.
You will have excellent interpersonal skills and experience of interacting with diverse groups of research staff and students, as well as a proven good work ethic and proven ability in trouble-shooting in the design and execution of experimental protocols. Excellent communication, time management, and organisation skills are essential, as is a strong drive to learn and develop your skills within a highly dynamic setting.
The post is fixed-term contract until 30 November 2021 and funded by the Wellcome.
