The University of Connecticut School of Medicine at UConn Health in Farmington, CT invites applications from outstanding individuals for Director of the Richard D. Berlin Center for Cell Analysis and Modeling (CCAM). CCAM is a fully independent academic center that brings together investigators from different departments who use quantitative techniques, in vivo approaches, and theoretical modeling to understand biological systems. CCAM uniquely embeds theoreticians within an environment of experimentalists, facilitating close and sustained collaboration and communication between the two cultures. Such an environment facilitated the development of the Virtual Cell, which allows users to formulate mathematical models of complex biochemical reaction pathways with a simple biology-oriented graphical user interface. CCAM is also home to two institutional core facilities, the Microscopy User Facility for fluorescence imaging and the High Performance Computing Facility. CCAM provides an exceptional training environment for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to produce scientists with cross-disciplinary skills.
The successful candidate will possess exceptional leadership and administrative skills, a strong vision for the future direction of CCAM, commitment to multidisciplinary research and an international reputation as a pioneering researcher in areas representative of the Center as evidenced by an outstanding record of publications and funding.
The University of Connecticut School of Medicine has a highly interactive research environment with interdisciplinary graduate and medical science training programs. The environment is enhanced by generous support from the State’s BioScience Connecticut initiative and by the recently established Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine on our campus.
