Oslo University Hospital is a highly specialized hospital in charge of extensive regional and local hospital assignments. As Scandinavia’s largest hospital, we carry out more than 1.2 million patient treatments each year. The hospital has a nationwide responsibility for a number of national and multi-regional assignments, and has several national centers of competence. Oslo University Hospital is responsible for approximately 50 percent of all medical and health care research conducted at Norwegian hospitals, and is a significant role player within the education of a large variety of health care personnel.

Combined with adjunct professor (20 %) at the Oslo Center for Biostatistics and Epidemiology (OCBE), Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Oslo.

The mission of Department of Cancer Genetics is to improve the lives of cancer patients by performing translational research on breast, lung and pancreatic cancer. We are an interdisciplinary team consisting of medical doctors, molecular biologists, bioinformaticians and engineers, organized in 4 research groups and one lab-technology unit. We have established a pipeline for high quality biobanking and data handling of patient cohorts with long-term follow-up data. Our database comprise >3000 patients and analyses at 2-6 molecular levels.

The Institute for Cancer Research (ICR):
ICR conducts cutting edge cancer research ranging from basic cancer biology to translational and clinical research. It is the leading cancer research institute in Norway and has a strong international standing. ICR is organized in 6 research departments, currently with 24 research groups, approx. 300 employees and an annual output of approx. 230 peer reviewed publications. Particularly strong research areas are molecular genetics, cell biology, cancer progression and metastasis biology, biomarker discovery and development, radiation biology, tumour immunology/immunotherapy and systems biology. The groups conduct particularly strong translational research within breast cancer, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, lymphomas, sarcomas, melanoma, gynaecologic cancers and prostate cancer. ICR hosts a department for core facilities including NGS/genomics platforms, bioinformatics, flow- and mass cytometry, pre-clinical imaging (incl. animal MRI) and electron-, confocal- and high resolution microscopy. In collaboration with The University of Oslo, ICR is in the leadership of a Center of Excellence (CanCell), three K.G. Jebsen Centers for colorectal cancer, immunotherapy and B cell malignancies, respectively, the National Cancer Genomics Consortium, as well as other large nation-wide collaborative projects and EU-funded projects.

The Dept. of Cancer Genetics and ICR aim to strengthen their translational cancer research with additional expertise in bioinformatics, biostatistics and computational biology and are now seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic biostatistician and systems biology researcher for a tenured Group Leader position in cancer research. The successful candidate will be experienced in developing and applying both biostatistical and computational approaches to analyze multi-omic and other complex data sets from preclinical studies, clinical trials as well as public genomics data from databases. The candidate will be expected to build a translational computational group in the department and to make original scientific contributions in an inspiring environment at the Institute for Cancer Research, whose lab facilities are a strong resource for validation.

For qualified candidates an adjunct full Professor position (20 %) will be available at the Oslo Center for Biostatistics and Epidemiology (OCBE), Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Oslo.

Job description
The successful candidate should have a solid foundation in biostatistics and/or systems biology in cancer research. She/he must document the ability to work independently and an openness to work in highly collaborative teams. The candidate should present a clear future research strategy and will be expected to develop and leverage academic collaborations within the institute as well as externally. Candidates with the strongest scientific production and who have already obtained funding for their research will be preferred, but junior applicants with potential in these directions are also invited to apply. The position is vacant for employment immediately.

The main position and the part time position will be combined. It is a requisition that the position holder attends to both positions. If the main position is left, the part time position must also be vacated. If one is granted leave from the main position, the decision of whether the part time UiO position can be held will be evaluated by the Head of Institute. The 20% position at OCBE is highly integrated with the full position at the ICR. The position holder will do research, supervise, teach, advice at UiO for approximately 20 % of her/his time. She/he will be part of the staff at OCBE and share such duties as required.

Qualifications
PhD degree in statistics, data science, computer science mathematics or related fields with focus on cancer research
Documented scientific qualifications at or near the professorial level
Experience with and willingness to build own research group and generate and report on own funding
Experience from development of statistical, mathematical models and computational tools for biomedical problems
Experience from supervision at the MSc and PhD level
Teaching skills and teaching experience
Team player, flexible, self-motivated with communication, leadership and organization skills.

We offer
The successful candidate will be offered a permanent position internally funded by OUH. The researcher position will according to Norwegian legislation be subjected to a 6 month probationary period. The position is included in the Norwegian Health Assurance and Retirement Pension Schemes, and the salary will be within the official range at OUH for Group Leader positions depending on qualifications.
