The University of Cologne, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Medical Statistics and Computational Biology (IMSB) seeks to appoint a
Professor (W 2) of Bioinformatics
as per the requirements outlined in § 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (HG NRW). The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date.
The professorship is integrated in the research environment of the Institute for Medical Statistics and Bioinformatics (IMSB) and serves to further develop data analysis tools and interpretation of high throughput data sets. The successful candidate will lead the Bioinformatics Core Facility and will collaborate closely with the West German Genome Center (WGGC) and the Cologne Excellence Cluster on Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-Associated Diseases (CECAD). The candidate is integrated into the established structures and research teams of the Medical Faculty, but also expected to further develop his/her own research program.
The candidate brings along a high international visibility in the field of computational biology. Furthermore, the candidate should expand his/her internationally competitive research program in combination with the interdisciplinary research areas of the Medical Faculty, e.g., the Center for Integrated Oncology (CIO), the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC) and the research focus Neuromodulation.
The Faculty of Medicine seeks to appoint a candidate with an excellent track record in research. Social skills, the capacity to work in multidisciplinary teams and to apply for third-party research funds are prerequisites.
