Job description:

As German Research Center for Environmental Health, Helmholtz Zentrum München pursues the goal of developing personalized medical approaches for the prevention and therapy of major common diseases such as diabetes mellitus, allergies and lung diseases. To achieve this, it investigates the interaction of genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle.

The Helmholtz Zentrum München in Munich, Germany, is member of one of the leading research associations in Europe - the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers. The aim of our research is to proactively detect health risks involving humans and the environment, decoding the mechanisms of pathogenesis and developing concepts for prevention and therapy.

The newly founded Institute for Metabolic, Obesity and Vascular Research (Helmholtz-Institut für Metabolismus-, Adipositas- und Gefäßforschung, HI-MAG) at the Universität Leipzig is part of the Helmholtz Diabetes Center and closely linked to the metabolic research activities (e.g., the DFG-funded CRC 1052 “Obesity Mechanisms) at Faculty of Medicine. It strongly promotes patient-based and patient-relevant research in these areas. Key topics of the new institute include regulation of appetite and satiety, molecular mechanisms of adipose tissue dysfunction in obesity, target identification and validation for obesity pharmacotherapy, develop novel vascular drug delivery systems and targets, novel biomarkers for personalized arterial restenosis prevention.

As part of the Institutes’ scientific strategy, several group leader positions will be opened second half of 2018. Job description

The future group leaders will establish research programs employing innovative approaches to identify clinically relevant molecular mechanisms by working as close to bedside as possible. We specifically welcome investigators with a “clinician scientist” track record or broad experience with bench-to-bedside research.

Applicants must hold a PhD or a M.D degree, international academic experience in the field and should show an excellent track record of high quality scientific productivity, providing evidence of excellence in obesity research. Experience with group supervision and management, including success in obtaining extramural research funding and supervising other scientists and PhD students will be considered an asset, but is not mandatory.

Initial short-term employment contract for five years with public service salary.
