The Institute of Cancer Research, London, is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes, with an outstanding record of achievement dating back more than 100 years. We provided the first convincing evidence that DNA damage is the basic cause of cancer, laying the foundation for the now universally accepted idea that cancer is a genetic disease. Today, The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) leads the world at isolating cancer-related genes and discovering new targeted drugs for personalised cancer treatment.

Under the leadership of our Chief Executive, Professor Paul Workman FRS, the ICR is ranked as the UK’s leading academic research centre. Together with our partner The Royal Marsden, we are rated in the top four cancer centres globally.

The ICR is committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best minds in the world to join us in our mission – to make the discoveries that defeat cancer.

Vacancy Description
The ICR is seeking to appoint an exceptional Team Leader to join the Breast Cancer Now Toby Robins Research Centre, Division of Breast Cancer. This is the first Centre in the UK entirely devoted to breast cancer research, with the goal to advance research into the causes, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. The Centre and Division, led by Professor Andrew Tutt and located in state-of-the-art laboratory space, with excellent core facilities and funding, consists of 10 teams and incorporates a breadth of research from basic cell and molecular biology relevant to breast cancer with extensive linkage to translational and clinical research. These programmes have informed many clinical studies and delivered significant impact to the clinic through therapy discovery, repositioning and allied biomarker research in several subtypes of breast cancer. We are keen to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Team Leader to develop programmes in translational breast cancer research complementing the Centre’s existing strengths. The post holder will have an active research programme that focuses on the biology of ER+ve breast cancer. They will have an active interest in pre-clinical biology relevant to the major challenges in ER+ve breast cancer and that informs the design of new clinical trials, informs the interpretation of existing trials or identifies novel therapeutic targets in this subset of the disease. The successful candidate will have a significant standing in the field, as evidenced by regular publications in high-impact journals, significant research grant funding and other measures of esteem. They will act as a key senior faculty member of the ICR and Breast Cancer Now Centre, and as a key “forward” and “reverse” translational research partner with clinical colleagues in the Royal Marsden Breast Unit.
