DESY is one of the world’s leading research centres for photon science, particle and astroparticle physics as well as accelerator physics. More than 2400 employees work at our two locations Hamburg and Zeuthen in science, technology and administration.
Looking back on a long tradition in research with synchrotron radiation, DESY is one of the leading centres in the field of photon science worldwide. With the storage ring PETRA III and the Free-Electron-Laser FLASH, DESY offers a unique combination of photon sources to the scientific community. PETRA III, one of the most brilliant hard X-ray facilities worldwide, currently provides 20 undulator beamlines for experiments utilizing the extreme source brilliance. A new X-ray undulator beamline for chemical crystallography methods has recently been opened for users and DESY is seeking a scientist for the further development and implementation of innovative instrumentation and methology at this new facility.
The positionImplementation of novel X-ray diffraction methods in close collaboration with external groupsDevelopment of a user-friendly software application layer for experiment controlCommissioning of new instrumentation at the beamlineDevelopment of own independent research and participation in collaborative projects with external groups
RequirementsPhD in physics, chemistry or a related disciplineExperience with X-ray diffraction methods using synchrotron radiationExperimental skills and interest in instrumentation developmentGood practical knowledge of Linux and experience of modern programming languages such as C, C++ and Python also for instrument controlAbility to work as part of a multidisciplinary Team and excellent knowledge of English
Salary and benefits are commensurate with those of public service organisations in Germany. Classification is based upon qualifications and assigned duties.
