Post-doctoral position in influenza virus molecular biology Institut Pasteur, Paris, France

Institut Pasteur

Paris, France

A post-doctoral position is available in the “Influenza Virus-Host Cell Interaction” group in the Department of Virology at the Institut Pasteur, starting early 2019.

Research project:

Molecular mechanism of transcription by influenza virus polymerase.
The position is offered in the frame of the ANR-funded FluTranscript collaborative project that brings together the complementary expertise of the groups of Stephen Cusack (EMBL-Grenoble, project coordinator) and Nadia Naffakh (Institut Pasteur) in structural biology and molecular virology, respectively. The overall goal of the project, which builds on a previous joint publication (Lukarska et al, Nature 2017), is to provide a detailed and integrated mechanistic description of influenza virus transcription in vitro and in the cellular context.
The expected results are functional and structural characterisation of the interaction between FluPol, Pol II and other transcription-related host-factors and analysis of the composition of viral mRNPs. Cross-validation between the cellular virological and in vitro structural data will be a critical part of the project. The results should provide important new insights into the influenza replication/transcription machine, and open new opportunities for anti-influenza drug development.

Who are we looking for:

The candidate must have a strong background in biochemistry and molecular biology. The candidate must be highly motivated, have good communication skills in english, and be willing and able to work with a team-spirit in a highly interactive research consortium.

What are we offering:

Funding for 24 months, with the possibility to extend the contract by applying to further funding. A highly topical basic research project in a collaborative setting at the interface with structural biology. A dynamic and creative environment in an interdisciplinary research institute, in the very heart of Paris.

Qualified applicants should send their CV, a statement of research interests and contact information for at least two references to nadia.naffakh@pasteur.fr
