Assistant Professor in Structural Biochemistry, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2019 or later. The department is looking for exceptional individuals with particular emphasis in the area of Structural Biochemistry. Applicants are encouraged to apply whose expertise and research program broadly aligns with contemporary structural biochemistry that relies on developing and applying state-of-the-art characterization methods including cryo-EM, x-ray diffraction, magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and other advanced biophysical techniques to problems in structure-function, dynamics-function, and biomolecular design. Candidates may be developers or advanced users of structural biology and physical biochemistry tools, and will be driven by outstanding and important questions in biochemistry, biology or bioengineering.
Responsibilities of faculty members include teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, recruitment, supervision, and mentorship of graduate students, participation in university service and professional activities, and the development of an actively funded research program of the highest quality. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in the Chemical Sciences or a related field by the time of appointment in the position. Candidates may hold postdoctoral (or equivalent) appointments. Applicants currently holding the rank of Assistant Professor (or equivalent) are also welcome to apply. A demonstrated record of excellence in research, and a record of (or potential for) outstanding teaching are desired. Successful candidates may have a record of collaborative research, and will be able to leverage synergies within and between the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and sister departments, and units such as Chemical Engineering, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, and the Center for Bioengineering.
