PhD Student (gn*)

Influenza viruses still represent a major health threat worldwide. Our antiviral arsenal to fight these pathogens is quite limited due to the rapid development of resistance to currently available drugs. Our work at the Institute of Virology focuses on the identification and characterisation of virus-host interfaces to develop novel strategies for antiviral interventions. The successful applicant will apply novel and classical techniques from the fields of virology, molecular biology and biochemistry including RNAi-technology, FRET, qRT-PCR, reporter gene assays and different imaging techniques.
Prerequisite is a Masters degree in Biology, Biochemistry or related fields. Highly motivated scientists with a strong background in virology or cell biology are especially encouraged to apply. The ideal PhD candidate should have solid practical experience in the culturing of immortalised and primary cell cultures as well as hands-on experience in virus cultivation.
We offer the ideal place to develop in a young, multicultural and interdisciplinary team new ideas and to work independently.
