The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) offers a PhD position at the Dresden partner site in the research group of Dr. med. Daniel Stange. The PhD position is located in the Surgical Research Laboratory of the University Hospital Dresden. We invite applications of a PhD student who is highly motivated to work in the field of translational bio-medicine to explore the molecular basis of therapy response.
Our group focuses on adult stem cells of the intestine and the stomach. We try to understand the mechanisms by which these stem cells maintain homeowithin the tissue, but also how they react upon challenges like inflammation. Furthermore, we are interested in the role of theses stem cells in tumor initiation and tumor growth in the mouse and human system. To approach these questions we are using state-of-the-art technologies such as genetically modified mice, 3D organoid cultures and genetic editing tools like CRISPR / Cas. The topic of this PhD position is the establishment and treatment of human stomach cancer organoids in the setting of a clinical trial to predict therapy response.
