Associate Professorships in Systems Biology, Regenerative Medicine and Cancer Biology at the Department of Molecular Medicine

University of Pavia

Pavia, Italy

The Department of Molecular Medicine (molecularmedicine.unipv.it/) of the University of Pavia (http://www.unipv.eu/site/en/home.html) is a large Department hosting approximately 30 research groups active in both preclinical and clinical research programmes in the fields of: (i) genetic diseases of the heart, bone and nervous system, (ii) degenerative diseases such as amyloidosis, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer caused by protein misfolding, (iii) cancer and, (iv) tissue and organ regeneration. The Department received core funding from the Italian Ministry for Education, Universities and Rsearch (MIUR) under the recent Departments of Excellence Initiative (www.miur.gov.it/dipartimenti-di-eccellenza), coordinates a new international PhD Programme in Translational Medicine and has access to state of the art equipment for molecular and cellular research in the central University Core Equipment Facility (www-7.unipv.it/cgs/) including high performance computing, super resolution light microscopy, cryo electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, cell sorting and MRI and micro-CT equipment for pre-clinical in vivo imaging. The Department seeks to appoint three new members of staff to the following tenured position:

MM01. Associate Professorship in Systems Biology (starting gross salary: € 54,034 per year).
The person appointed will have a strong track record in systems biology or related fields of research and will build a strong research programme involving both computational and experimental systems biology approaches to the study of degenerative diseases or cancer or tissue/organ development and regeneration.

MM02. Associate Professorship in Regenerative Medicine (starting gross salary: € 54,034 per year).
The person appointed will have a strong track record in molecular and cellular approaches to the study of tissue/organ development and/or regeneration and will build a research programme of regenerative medicine applied to diseases of the central nervous system or major internal organs (heart, lungs, liver, pancreas, kidneys, etc) or specialised tissues (skin, cartilage, bone, etc).

MM03. Associate Professorship in Cancer Biology (starting gross salary: € 54,034 per year).
The person appointed will have made original contributions to the molecular or cellular basis of cancer and will build a strong research programme in areas such as cancer progression, metastasis, microenvironment and/or cancer immunity.

The above positions are partly funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) and it is a requirement for application that candidates held for at least three years an Associate Professorship at the University where they are currently employed or an equivalent position at a Research Institute. Appointees are expected to contribute to the teaching of undergraduate medical students enrolled in the Harvey Course (www-7.unipv.it/harveymedicine/home/harvey-universita-degli-studi-di-pavia/), a leading medical course of the University of Pavia taught in English. They will have access to University-funded PhD studentships offered on an annual and competitive basis and are expected to secure external funding for their research programmes from national and international sources of funding. Informal enquiries about these positions can be obtained from E Gherardi . Formal applications including a full academic cv, the name of three people familiar with the work of the candidate and a brief ( before the 16th of September 2018. Selection procedure may involve an interview and a research seminar. Starting dates are negotiable but before October 2019 for MM1 and MM02, there is more flexibility about the starting date for position MM03.
