The Department of Microbial Sciences at MedImmune, LLC is seeking a skilled and innovative postdoctoral candidate with virology/immunology/pulmonary biology experience to explore pathogenic mechanisms of exacerbation of asthma and COPD. This postdoctoral position will focus on lung epithelial- viral interactions using patient-derived stem cells and airway models at the tissue- and single-cell levels. The successful applicant will have experience in primary/ immortalized cell culture, as well as in vitro and in vivo models of respiratory virus infection. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in virology. The candidate will be part of a growing cross-functional effort to identify novel approaches to combat viral pathogens and respiratory disease.

Education/Experience

  • Ph.D. in the field of in virology, immunology, respiratory biology, cell biology or related scientific discipline,
  • Prior research experience in virology and/or respiratory biology and the knowledge of lung biology, physiology and disease.
  • Strong cell biology experience in tissue culture techniques, isolation and culture of primary cells and the use of co-culture systems.
  • Expertise in cellular and molecular biology techniques (Western blot, qRT-PCR, immunostaining, ELISA) and fluorescence imaging.
  • Experience in epithelial cell culture and differentiation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to wo rk independently and in collaborative team environments.
  • Track record of publication in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals
