The Departments of Medicine and Anesthesiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine are seeking highly motivated scientists interested in basic and translational research at the rank of Research Associate. The research focus of this position is studies of pulmonary vascular signaling and endothelial cell biology with translational focus on biomedical problems such as acute lung injury, trauma, and sepsis.
The primary activity for this position is academic research in association with a faculty member or a research team. Qualified applicants must have a doctoral degree and at least three years of post-doctoral experience including, but not limited to areas of cell physiology, live cell imaging, mechanotranaduction, and signal transduction in living cells and tissues. Alternative projects available for this position may involve translational studies in animal models of lung injury, trauma and sepsis, and require technical skills in animal surgery and analysis of injury parameters in vivo. This position provides an opportunity to lead a project independently and supervise trainees, and requires proper skills in manuscript writing and participation in grant preparation.
Required skills and experience: Preferred candidates should have extensive expertise in the area of signal transduction, characterization of protein-protein interactions in mammalian cells, cytoskeleton and cell adhesion regulation, and excellent manuscript writing skills. Experience in endothelial cell biology, transient transfections, functional cell-based assays (such as permeability, adhesion, migration, tube formation), immunofluorescence, protein biochemistry (such as immunoprecipitation, pull-down, fractionation, biotinylation assays) is essential. Experience in advanced imaging techniques, protein purification, flow cytometry, qRT-PCR, cloning, and viral transfections will be useful. Previous experience with assisting in training of post-doctoral fellows is a plus.
