Postdoctoral Associate

Postdoctoral Associate

Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)

New York, NY, United States

Job Description

Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) is a science philanthropy whose mission is to advance biomedical research and science education for the benefit of humanity.  We empower exceptional scientists and students to pursue fundamental questions about living systems, and work to share scientific discoveries with researchers, students, and science-curious individuals around the world.

Founded in 1953 by aviator and industrialist Howard R. Hughes, HHMI is headquartered in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and employs more than 2500 people across the U.S.  Visit hhmi.org/careers to learn more about working at HHMI.

A postdoc position is available for talented Ph.D. graduates who are currently within the first year of their graduation. The candidate should have experience in thinking of molecular mechanisms of processes in the nucleus.  Preferred experience is with protein biochemistry or biophysics; however, training can be provided to those who have extensive genetic experience in single cell organisms that have grappled with detailed molecular questions. The laboratory uses pure proteins for biochemical assays, single molecule assays, and for EM Titan Krios structure determination to solve important detailed mechanistic features of how the DNA duplex is replicated in eukaryotes, yeast, and to human.  This laboratory’s main specialty is replication fork dynamics and how the replicating machinery interfaces with DNA repair, cell cycle checkpoint and recombination processes – all using in vitro methods with pure proteins.

The anticipated start date would be during January 2018 and salary would be competitive.  The postdoctoral position would be through Howard Hughes Medical Institute, initially for one year, but with the possibility of five to six years total, depending on date of receipt of the Ph.D. and performance in the lab. Candidates will be expected to try for extramural funding.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter of their experience, current curriculum vitae (CV), publication list and three letters of reference to: odonnel@rockefeller.edu.  Please include the position title in the subject line.  Mutual interest will involve a trip to NYC for an in-person interview with the lab. Only highly motivated scientists that have a drive and a vested interest in a life time of scientific study should apply.

Howard Hughes is an equal opportunity employer.
