The Medical Faculty of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University Bonn offers, jointly with the DZNE,
a W2-Professorship for Translational Biogerontology
The permanent joint appointment will be carried out according to the “Jülicher Modell”. An appointment for life on the basis of the civil service law of North Rhine-Westphalia is aspired.
The applicant (f/m/d) should be internationally recognized in the areas of aging research and neuroscience. The focus of the scientific activities should be on the validation, in mammalian models, of pharmacological, dietary, genetic and immunotherapeutic interventions with regards to possible protective effects against aspects of aging and age-related disorders. Required is a high level of expertise as it concerns both behavioral and neurobiological analyses, as well as multidisciplinary phenotyping approaches that focus on murine aging phenotypes across different tissues and organ systems. The professor shall also contribute to the question to what extent early-life and intergenerational factors might influence aging processes and disease risk via epigenetic mechanisms. Complementary studies in a human context are desired. Expected is an excellent publication record, experience in leading a multidisciplinary research team, as well as in mentoring of scientific personnel, teaching of university students and acquisition of third-party funds, and an aptitude towards collaboration with both academic and industry partners. Integration into the research priorities of the Medical Faculty is desired.
The professorship should strengthen research and teaching within one of the focus areas of the Medical Faculty (www.ukb.uni-bonn.de/Forschung). The appointment will be carried out jointly by the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University and the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE). The successful candidate will be appointed as a university professor and will be granted leave of absence to work at the DZNE. The appointment is permanent. Selection of applicants will be jointly by the DZNE and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University.
The successful candidate is required to have completed medical studies, to hold a license to practice medicine (‘Approbation’) and to have gained ‘Habilitation’ or an equivalent scientific qualification with experience in teaching. The Medical Faculty of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University Bonn and the DZNE aim to increase the proportion of female scientists in research and teaching and, therefore, specifically requests applications from qualified female scientists.
