The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Nutritional Sciences and Environmental Management invites applications for a
W2 Professorship (with W3 tenure track)
for Plant Nutrition
provisionally limited to six years as of October 1st, 2022. Reference is made to § 64 section 1 and 4 Hessian Higher Education Act (HHG) and to conditions of employment based on § 62 HHG. In case of eligibility, which will be evaluated according to § 64 section 2 HHG, a permanent W3-Professorship will be offered subsequently. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching within the faculty’s German language BSc and MSc study programs. This comprises the basics in biochemistry for students of nutritional sciences and household economics as well as the basics in plant nutrition for students of agriculture. In the MSc study program Crop Sciences, the entire field of plant nutrition has to be covered (particularly the availability and dynamics of plant nutrients in soils, nutrient acquisition, translocation of nutrients within plants, functions of nutrients, and source-sink relationships).
In research, it is expected that the professorship will work on eco-physiological issues, e.g. the role of nutrients under stress conditions such as drought, heat, or cold stress as well as an optimized use of nutrients with regard to resource and environment protection. Apart from an internationally visible fundamental research of plant nutrition, practical co-operations with neighboring disciplines e.g. soil science, microbiology, crop physiology, agronomy, and plant breeding as well as human and animal nutrition are desirable.
Collaboration in interdisciplinary research projects of the faculty and the university is expected as well as the commitment to the international networking of the faculty. In addition, the willingness to cooperate with non-university partners is expected. The professorship’s participation in the Giessen Graduate Center Life Sciences (GGL) is desirable.
Applicants have to display an excellent publication record in relevant, highly-ranked, international peer-reviewed journals. Successes and experiences in the independent acquisition and management of externally funded projects are expected.
