The Ruhr-Universität Bochum – Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry invites applications for a tenured faculty position: W2 Professorship of Physical Chemistry

We are seeking a candidate with a focus on state-of-the-art experimental methods for investigations that give microscopic insight into fundamental properties of small molecules and molecular complexes up to the condensed phase. Experience in the development of new spectroscopic techniques and/or microscopic techniques which are complementary to the existing research fields at the department is expected. Embedding in existing collaborative research centers at the department, in particular RESOLV (, is welcome.

The professorship will be supported by both scientific and technical staff, provided with funding for dedicated instrumentation and may benefit from state-of-the-art laboratories within the Research Building ZEMOS (

The applicants are expected to have an outstanding record of publication and an internationally visible academic standing. An important aspect is the ability and the willingness of the candidate to collaborate with existing groups, in particular within the Cluster of Excellence RESOLV.

Positive evaluation as a junior professor or equivalent academic achievement. (e.g. habilitation) and evidence of special aptitude for academic teaching are just as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the RUB and to generally get involved in university processes according to RUB’s mission statement.

• willingness and ability to attract external funding
• readiness to contribute to joint research projects of the department
