W1 Professor for Pharmacogenomics (Tenure Track with W2 option after 6 years)

Universitätsklinikum Bonn (AöR)

Bonn, Germany

The Medical Faculty of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn invites applications for the position of

W1 Professor for Pharmacogenomics (Tenure Track with W2 option after 6 years)

at the Institute of Human Genetics, University Hospital of Bonn. The position is available at the earliest possible opportunity.

This professorate is funded by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States. Awarding tenure is not subject to a vacancy at the time when the fixed-term contract of the tenure track position expires. This call is aimed at early-career researchers. Candidates must have changed universities following the doctorate or have been working in academic research outside of the University of Bonn for at least two years prior to applying. Formal requirements are defined by § 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz Nordrhein-Westfalen).

Pharmacogenomics is of major importance for the development of modern precision medicine. The aim of the professorship is to strengthen and develop the field of pharmacogenomics at the Medical Faculty and the University Hospital of Bonn (UHB).

The applicant should have international recognition as a researcher into the molecular genetic basis of pharmacogenomic effects. Since bioinformatics methods are becoming increasingly important in terms of integrating molecular genetic data with other data levels, the applicant should have proven knowledge of these methods. Basic pharmacological knowledge is also preferable. Experience in leading a scientific working group and acquiring competitive third-party funding are desirable.

The professorship is embedded in the cross-sectional research focus Genetics and Epidemiology. Cooperations with other research areas of the Medical Faculty are welcome. Given the broad clinical relevance of pharmacogenomic concepts, diverse collaborations at the UHB are possible. Close liaison with the Institute of Clinical Pharmacology and Clinical Chemistry, the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology, and the Study Center Bonn is envisaged. The local Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) offers opportunities for cooperation in the regulatory area. In teaching, the professorship should be integrated into subject-specific courses and graduate schools.

The professorship will be based at the Institute of Human Genetics at the UHB and linked to the management of an independent working group. Through the genomics platform at the Institute of Human Genetics, the bioinformatics competence for genome analysis at the Institute for Genomic Statistics and Bioinformatics, the Core Facility Next Generation Sequencing, the Core Unit for Bioinformatics Data Analysis, and the West German Genome Center, extensive support is available for the implementation of ambitious research projects.

The University of Bonn is committed to diversity and equal opportunity. The University of Bonn is certified as a family-friendly university and has a dual career service. It aims to increase the proportion of women in areas where women are underrepresented and to promote their careers in particular. It therefore urges women with relevant qualifications to apply. Applications will be handled in accordance with the State Equality Act (Landesgleichstellungsgesetz). Applications from suitable individuals with a certified serious disability and those of equal status are particularly welcome.
