The Medical Faculty of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn invites applications for the position
W1 Professor for Cellular Virology (m/f/d)
(Tenure-Track with a W2 option after 6 years)
at the Institute of Cardiovascular Immunology of the University Hospital Bonn.
The professorship shall contribute significantly to the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms discriminating viral and host RNA. Therefore, it is expected that the candidate provides a profound knowledge in the areas of immunology, virology and RNA biology. This requires extensive theoretical and practical expertise in infection biology, the study of RNA modifications and structures, microRNAs as well as RNases. A broad range of methodological experience and the aim to develop innovative techniques is essential.
The Institute of Cardiovascular Immunology is part of the Excellence Cluster “ImmunoSensation2”, the CRC/Transregio 237 “Nucleic Acid Immunity”, as well as other Collaborative Research Centers. The active partic-ipation in the lively immunological community in Bonn, and interdisciplinary collaborative research initiatives is expected.
Besides scientific tasks, the professorship is obliged for teaching activities. These include lectures, supervi-sion of undergraduate (m/f/d) and graduate students (m/f/d), practical courses and seminars.
With the establishment and appointment of the professorship we aspire to strengthen research and teaching in the main research areas of the faculty (https://www.medfak.uni-bonn.de/de/forschung/forschungsschwerpunkte ).
Prerequisites of a hiring are a PhD in Life Sciences, Biology, Medicine or in a similar field, proof of scientific achievements as well as experience in teaching according to § 36 Hochschulgesetz NRW. Fluency in English is required, German knowledge is appreciated.
