The Faculty of Medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a

W1 Endowed Professorship for Rheumatology
(Assistant Professor)

at the Department of Medicine 3 – Rheumatology and Immunology. The professorship is to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of three years. Upon successful evaluation, the appointment will be extended for another three years. The professorship will be funded by Sanofi Aventis Deutschland GmbH via the Stifterverband.

We seek to appoint a top early career scientist who will develop outstanding expertise in the field. The successful candidate will be expected to represent the specialist area in teaching and research and lead an independent scientific working group at the Department of Medicine 3. We are seeking to appoint an excellent researcher who will specialise in research into the causes of chronicity in inflammatory diseases, focusing on tissue-specific regulatory mechanisms. The successful candidate will be expected to cover both experimental and translational aspects of the research area, to use innovative methods (e.g. high resolution imaging) and to develop new concepts for the prevention of inflammation. The post holder will be expected to participate in the research networks at FAU and Universitätsklinikum Erlangen (e.g. collaborative research centres, research training groups, the Interdisciplinary Centre for Clinical Research, the leading edge cluster Medical Valley, and the Graduate School in Advanced Optical Technologies [SAOT]). The degree programmes taught at the Faculty of Medicine include degree programmes in Medicine and Molecular Medicine (BSc., M.Sc.), as well as the elite degree programme in Integrated Immunology (M.Sc.) offered in collaboration with the Department of Biology. The curricula are taught in both German and English.
