The Center for Quantum Science and Quantum Computing (QSC) of the Universities of Basel (Switzerland) and Freiburg (Germany), embedded in EUCOR – The European Campus, invites applications for two experimental Georg H. Endress Postdoc Fellowships.
For this call, the QSC target areas are:
- Ultra cold interaction and controlled quantum physics/chemistry of atom-ion systems in optical dipole traps – in absence of any radio-frequency (rf) fields. This allows circumventing the fundamental limitations in conventional Hybrid traps set by rf driven heating to access the regime where quantum effects dominate.
- Quantum Simulations based on trapped ions: in conventional rf-traps, as well as in two dimensional arrays of individual rf-surface traps.
For both areas see also www.qsim.uni-freiburg.de.
A background in laser cooling and trapping neutral or charged particles is advantageous.
- Combining expertise in XUV and attosecond science with coherent multidimensional spectroscopy, e.g., to develop coherent nonlinear and multidimensional spectroscopy in the XUV and attosecond regime (see www.atto.uni-freiburg.de – and – www.nanophysics.uni-freiburg). Experience in the use of ultrafast lasers is advantageous.
The Center seeks to attract outstanding and highly motivated early-career scientists in QSC to engage in cutting-edge projects involving existing research groups in Freiburg linked to Basel. The ideal Georg H. Endress Fellow we are currently searching for has recently finished a PhD in experimental physics and is eager to shape the academic environment in research and teaching at both nodes. Fellows will be appointed typically for up to three years, and will be selected on the basis of scientific excellence as well as quality and innovative potential of proposed research.
Applications contain the candidate’s CV and a short (up to two pages) research statement, in one pdf document. The research statement should identify one or more QSC-PI the candidate would like to work with, and suggest a potential partner group with complementary expertise at the QSC node at Basel if possible (see a list of PIs and contact the individual groups at the University of Freiburg). Furthermore, candidates are asked to provide two people as potential contacts for confidential letters of reference. Applications shall be submitted online, via academicjobsonline.org. Women scientists are particularly encouraged to apply.
Deadline for applications is 31.03.2020.
