The position
With this position, QGG wants to strengthen and develop the academic leadership of Sustainable livestock breeding programs. Ensuring high agricultural production efficiency, whilst reducing climate and environmental impact, sustainable livestock breeding faces challenges in terms of new traits, such as feed efficiency, methane emission, resilience, and welfare. At the same time new phenotyping, reproductive, and genomic technologies have become available. In light of these developments, the position requires expertise within; development of breeding goals, optimising breeding plans and developing tools for strategic and operational breeding decisions. The candidate is expected to develop a strong and competitive research program in the fields above and in addition, the position entails a strong collaboration with existing research areas within QGG. The candidate is expected to collaborate with industry partners and to perform research based policy support. You will be expected to conduct teaching at all levels as well as supervision of Master, PhD students, Postdocs.

The position is available from November 1st 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter

Qualification requirements
The successful applicant can demonstrate a high level of scientific production at a national and international level, and documentation of development within the research area stated above. Outstanding results and a high level of experience from a postdoc position including substantial, international experience are essential for tenure track appointment. Important qualifications for a senior scientist is the successful establishment of an original research programme, the ability to attract external research funding, research leadership and managing research projects, and to participate in national and international research networks.

In addition, the applicant is expected to have the following qualifications;

  • A Ph.D. degree in animal breeding, quantitative genetics, statistics, or similar
  • Demonstrated excellence in research in the field of the position
  • Documented excellent skills in oral and written communication in English,
  • Documented experience on collaboration with non-university partners,
  • Documented record of attracting competitive research funding from national and international funding bodies.
  • Experience in research based ministry advice is desirable

Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics (QGG)
The institute like center QGG, is a major center for research and education in quantitative genetics and quantitative genomics (www.qgg.au.dk/en) at Aarhus university. We perform basic and applied research within livestock and plant breeding as well as human applications within precision medicine. The research within QGG is characterized by a very close synergy between method development, basic analyses and application of the developed methods on practical problems across species in collaboration with industry partners. QGG is an international research Center with about 70 employees and visiting researchers from over 15 nations. QGG works in teams and strive for an excellent working environment. We therefore value self-leadership, open communication, respect for diversity and success in mentoring, supervision and teaching. The current location of QGG is in Foulum and Flakkebjerg. However, the main location of QGG will be the main campus in Aarhus centre. The candidate can therefore choose between working in Foulum or in Aarhus.

The work adress for the time being is Blichers Alle 20, 8830 Tjele, Denmark. However within the next year research facilities will be available in 8000 Aarhus C, Denmark. When these facilities become available, it will be possible that the work address will be in Aarhus”.

Technical Sciences Tenure Track

Highly qualified candidates are appointed as Assistant Professors for a period of six years with the prospect of performance- based advancement to a tenured Associate Professorship.

The aim of the Technical Sciences Tenure Track Programme is to:

As part of the tenure track position, the candidate is offered:

As part of the Aarhus University Tenure Track Programme, the University carries out a mid-way evaluation to review the progress of the tenure track candidate after three years, according to the same criteria used in the final tenure review. The final tenure review is conducted after five and a half years. If the review is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as Associate Professor at Aarhus University.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range
Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
