The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at all levels and in all areas of biomechanical engineering. Intellectual areas of great interest include the intersection of biosensing and bioimaging with AI and machine learning, bioinstrumentation, mechanobiology from molecular to organismal scale, and applications of quantum mechanics in biology.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in an engineering or related field and will be expected to establish an independent, multidisciplinary, and internationally recognized research program. We seek a colleague who has a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate level and who will contribute to our community by embracing excellence, diversity and inclusion. The Department of Mechanical Engineering has 26 full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty members, 23 research and teaching faculty members, 300 undergraduates, 200 graduate students, and 65 postdocs. The Whiting School of Engineering and the Johns Hopkins University actively encourage and supports interdisciplinary research through school-level research centers and cross-divisional research institutes. The above focus areas complement the expertise and activities currently in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and have strong potential for collaboration with many Whiting School of Engineering centers and Johns Hopkins University institutes, such as the Institute for NanoBioTechnology (INBT), Malone Center for Engineering in Healthcare, Translational Tissue Engineering Center (TTEC), as well as the new AI-X initiative, the School of Medicine, and the Applied Physics Laboratory.
