The Department of Neuroscience and Pharmacology seeks highly qualified applicants for several tenure track faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor level in the broad areas of Neuroscience and Pharmacology. Preferred areas of research complement existing strengths in the department, including molecular systems neuroscience, disorders of the nervous system, central control of energy homeostasis and cardiovascular function, cell signaling, aging, and cancer biology. The department has new leadership and is undergoing expansion of its faculty (https://medicine.uiowa.edu/neuroscience-and-pharmacology/). Neuroscience and Pharmacology faculty members direct an NIH funded training program for predoctoral students in Pharmacological Sciences and have strong collaborative interactions with colleagues throughout the Carver College of Medicine, Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, Cardiovascular Center, Iowa Neuroscience Institute, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center. The faculty members also participate in interdisciplinary training programs including Neuroscience, Molecular Medicine, Pain Research, Genetics, and the Medical Scientist Training Program. Outstanding research space with state-of-the art shared instrumentation is available. These tenure-track positions include a 12-month salary, benefits and a competitive start-up package.
All applicants must have a relevant doctoral degree, demonstrated ability in research and teaching and/or mentoring, including high-profile publications, and documented potential to direct an innovative and productive research program. For the Assistant Professor rank, this includes a minimum of 2 years of postdoctoral training and an outstanding record of research accomplishments. For the Associate and Full Professor rank, this additionally includes a record of outstanding accomplishments in teaching and service. Applicants must also have productive research experience focusing on topics of broad interest in neuroscience and/or pharmacology. Applicants will be judged on their potential to initiate and maintain a vigorous, independent research program and to teach and train students and postdoctoral fellows. The successful candidate should have the demonstrated capacity to foster an environment in which excellence in research, teaching, and scholarship can flourish, as well as experience and interest in developing and leading research programs.
