Shandong First Medical University (Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences) has been actively promoting the strategy of “invigorating the university through talents” and therefore has formulated a series of high-level talent introduction programs, and welcome talents at home and abroad to join us.
1. Qualifications for Different Levels of Applicants:
- Strategic Talents*
This level targets academicians or experts with the qualifications that the applicants should be no more than 65 years old, and have made systematic, creative achievements and major contributions in the disciplines they have engaged in, and have important international influence and high academic status, and can help develop the disciplines to reach the world-class academic level with profound academic knowledge.
Category A: The qualified applicants should be no more than 55 years old, with high-level original research achievements recognized by international peers in the academic frontier field, and have done an important work of groundbreaking significance in the research field, with innovative ideas, and the ability to lead relevant research to reach an international advanced level. The qualified applicants should also be awardees of “the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars”, “Changjiang Scholars Program”, primary winners of second prize or above of National Traching Achievement Award, presidents of the specialty societies of Chinese Medical Association，or research, teaching and clinical experts at home and abroad with the equivalent qualifications. Category B: The qualified applicants should be no more than 45 years old, have been engaged in forward-looking and innovative research with strong academic potential, and have achieved landmark research results with important academic influence in academic frontiers satisfying the nation’s great demand. The qualified applicants should also be awardees of “Outstanding Youth Science Foundation”, “Changjiang Youth Scholar Program”, “National Master Teacher”, vice presidents of the specialty societies of Chinese Medical Association or presidents of provincial-level specialty societies, or research, teaching and clinical experts at home and abroad with the equivalent qualifications.
Top-notch Talents The qualified applicants should be no more than 45 years old, have been engaged in forward-looking and innovative research, and have achieved a high academic level in relevant research fields, with strong independent research abilities, high academic attainments, and great development potential.
Category A: The qualified applicants should be the national-level candidates for “New Century Million Talents Program”, Distinguished Experts of “Taishan Scholars”, primary winners of special award of provincial-level teaching achievement award, heads of national key clinical specialties, or research, teaching and clinical experts at home and abroad with the equivalent qualifications.
Category B: The qualified applicants should meet at least one of the following requirements:Applicants should be young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions at the provincial and ministerial levels, provincial-level teaching masters or outstanding teachers, heads of provincial-level clinical key specialties or research, or teaching and clinical experts at home and abroad with the equivalent qualifications.
ii. Applicants should hold at least associate professor or other equivalent positions in well-known universities in China and have achieved outstanding performance in academics in the past five years. iii. Applicants should hold at least assistant professor or other equivalent positions in famous overseas universities or research institutions, or have the long-term overseas academic study and research experiences with outstanding performance in academics.
- Backbone Talents*
The qualified applicants should be no more than 40 years old, with those less than 35 years old being preferred, have made some research achievements with certain academic influences. The academic level of the qualified applicants should be at the forefront among the scholars of the same age in this discipline, and have the potential to become academic leaders.The qualified applicants should be the young experts of “Taishan Scholars Youth Expert Program”，the top one of the second prize winners of provincial teaching achievement, or research, teaching and clinical experts at home and abroad with the equivalent achievements of the stated above.
ii. The qualified applicants should be outstanding post-doctors or PhD holders from well-known universities or institutions. In the recent five years, the applicants have published academic papers on natural sciences as the first author, which have been included in at least the SCI Q2.
- Young Outstanding Reserve Talents*
The qualified applicants should be no more than 35 years old and academically active post-doctors or PhD holders, with great academic potential and excellent academic achievements. Priority is given to the doctors who have academic study and working experiences in national key universities, national-level research institutions, or high-level universities and research institutions overseas.
Category A: The qualified applicants should have a clear academic research direction, have obtained or are expected to obtain landmark research results with great academic influence, meeting one of the following requirements in the past three years:the ones who have published at least 3 high quality SCI professional academic papers on natural science as the first author or corresponding author, and at least one paper’s IF≥ 5.0.
ii.the ones who are outstanding doctoral graduates of TOP100 universities according to the latest world rankings (QS, ARWU, or THE) , and have published high-level academic papers in important journals in relevant fields or achieved high-level research results.
Category B: The qualified applicants must have achieved certain achievements in academic and other fields in the past five years:the ones who have published high-level SCI papers on natural science as the first author or corresponding author.
ii. the ones who are outstanding doctoral graduates of or post-doctors with at least one-year research experiences in TOP 200 universities according to the latest world rankings (QS, ARWU, or THE) , or the top 10% of outstanding doctoral graduates at home according to the latest national discipline ranking and have published high-level academic papers or high-level research results in important journals in relevant fields.
Category C: Excellent PhD holders with great development potential are urgently needed in public or basic courses teaching.
(6) Talents with special performances or disciplines/academic leaders who are badly needed in teaching, scientific research or medical treatment, shall be decided with the specific reference to the above conditions and also the actual situations. Each college or hospital may appropriately raise requirements for talents introduction based on the development of their own disciplines. Age limit can be extended for those who have exceptional abilities.
(7) The teams introduction is encouraged and welcomed. In addition to the corresponding salary package, the amount of the start-up funds for the introduced team members will be specifically negotiated.
(8) Flexible introduction methods can be adopted (it is applied to leading talents and strategic talents).
2. Introduction to Salary Package
(1) The University will provide internationally competitive annual salary, housing subsidy, operating (start-up) funds, and assistants, etc. for top-notch talents, leading talents and strategic talents, and the salary package for each expert will be specifically negotiated.
(2) As to backbone talents and young outstanding reserve talents, the University will provide full-scale favorable salary package in the areas of professional titles, housing subsidies, and operating (start-up) funds according to individual academic achievements.
(3) If the talents have made great achievements and met the requirements for higher-level talents during the employment period, the University will re-sign salary package contract for higher-level talents after deliberation. (4) If the talents obtain honorary national or provincial-level talents titles, they shall enjoy the corresponding salary package accordingly. Research awards are subject to be implemented in line with the relevant regulations of SFMU.

4. About the University
Approved by Shandong Provincial Party Committee of the Communist Party of China and Shandong Provincial People’s Government, Taishan Medical University and Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences have been integrated to be Shandong First Medical University (Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences) in order to optimize the development of higher education in Shandong Province, accelerate the integration of science and education and realize the connotative development of higher education. Formally established in February 2019, Shandong First Medical University (Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences) (SFMU) is a provincial key application-and-research-oriented university, and also the largest medical scientific research institution in Shandong Province.
SFMU has three campuses (Jinan, Tai’an and Zhangqiu), and research institutes in Jinan, Qingdao and Jining, covering an area of over 988 acres. The main campus of Jinan is located in the core area of Jinan International Medical Science Center, with a planned area of 428 acres and the building area of 900,000 square meters. Tai’an Campus covers an area of more than 494 acres and a school building area of 820,000 square meters.
SFMU has a high-level faculty and research team led by academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Among them, there are 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 42 awardees of “Ten Thousand Talent Program”, “The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars”, “Changjiang Youth Scholar Program” “ Outstanding Youth Science Foundation”, and 76 awardees of “Taishan Scholars Climbing Program” and “Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions” at provincial and ministerial level. 1831 faculty obtain at least associated senior titles and 3395 faculty have doctoral or master’s degrees.
SFMU is the first batch of pilot universities for Excellent Doctor Education Training Program initiated by Ministry of Education and the National Health Commission, and the first batch of pilot universities for the reform of training mode of master’s degree candidates in clinical medicine. SFMU has 44 majors for undergraduates and is entitled to confer master’s degree in 5 first-tier disciplines and 64 programs; and clinical medical doctorate in 1 first-tier discipline. We have 6 provincial key disciplines, 4 national characteristic majors, and 8 provincial characteristic majors. Such majors as clinical medicine (six years in a row), pharmacology and toxicology, biology and biochemistry rank the top 1% in ESI global discipline ranking list.
SFMU has established more than 40 innovation platforms at the provincial level or above, including the National Key Laboratory Breeding Base, Key Laboratory supervised by the National Health Commission, Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory, and so on, which has achieved a series of major social and economic benefits. Since the new century, it has won 7 second prizes for national scientific and technological progress, 2 He-Liang-He-Li Foundation Awards for science and technology progress, 4 Science and Technology Top Awards of Shandong Province and 27 first prizes of Shandong Science and Technology Award.
With solid clinical treatment strength, and strong disease prevention and control capabilities, SFMU has 9 Grade-III Class-A hospitals (4 general hospitals and 5 specialty hospitals), 16 national key clinical specialties, and 6 national drug clinical trial institutions and 6 clinical medical research centers of Shandong Province. It helped Shandong take the lead in eliminating kala-azar, filariasis, malaria and leprosy on a provincial level and won four consecutive championships in the history of disease elimination in China. With a WHO Collaborating Center, It is now guiding the province to carry out the prevention and control of occupational diseases, skin diseases, parasitic diseases, tumors, blindness, and rare diseases and radiation protection.
SFMU is one of the first universities to carry out the Shandong Provincial Government Scholarship Program for foreign students. Since 2004, it has recruited bachelor’s degree and master’s degree candidates from over 20 countries and regions, including the United States, South Korea, Canada, India, Nepal, etc, and achieved a good international reputation. It has established good cooperation and exchange relationship with universities, medical and scientific research institutions in more than 30 countries and regions, including the United States, Britain, Australia, Russia, Japan, Israel, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
