Overview

This is an exciting career opportunity for a mid- to advanced level scientist to join the laboratory of Dr. Charles G. Mullighan, MBBS (Hons), MSc, MD at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Our laboratory is at the forefront of landmark studies that define the genetic basis of acute leukemia, particularly acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and the development of experimental models to gain mechanistic insight into the basis of treatment failure in acute leukemia. The laboratory offers a strong team-based environment where you will conduct clinically-relevant research using a variety of genomic, molecular, biochemical, and cell-based and organismal technologies to model leukemia. The laboratory uses a broad range of approaches including genome, transcriptome, epigenome and single cell sequencing approaches, mammalian cell culture, mouse model generation using recombineering and genome editing, functional genomic screening in vitro and in vivo using RNA interference and CRISPR/Cas9, and preclinical modeling in patient derived xenografts. The laboratory has conducted the largest genomic analyses of ALL and related disorders, and has established portals and repositories of data and samples that are used by the lab and worldwide.

 

In this role, you will have the opportunity to pursue independent research of the biology of genetic alterations in acute leukemia, while providing a supportive and leadership role assisting and training other laboratory members. To succeed in this position, you should have demonstrated proficiency in molecular biology, molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, gene transfer and in vivo modeling of cancer/leukemia. The successful candidate will have proficiency in one or more of the following areas: CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, functional genomic screens, single cell approaches, in vivo imaging, or proteomic approaches. Familiarity with genomic data is advantageous but the applicant is not required to have extensive computational skills. Strong organizational skills, time management, multitasking, deadline focus, the ability to work both independently and in a team setting, and outstanding communication, writing and presentation skills are expected.

 

Minimum Education

  • A Ph.D. in an appropriate scientific field is required

 

Minimum Experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant and productive (combined) years postdoctoral research associate or five (5) years of combined academic experience at the postdoctoral level or above.
