National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, Intramural Research Program, a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is recruiting a Staff Scientist 1 in the Liver Diseases Virology Section (LDVS) of the Liver Diseases Branch (https://www.niddk.nih.gov/about-niddk/staff-directory/biography/liang-jake).

The overall research goal of the LDVS is to conduct basic and translational research in viral hepatitis, liver pathobiology and liver cancer, with focus on hepatitis B and C virology, viral-host interaction, and pathogenesis of chronic viral hepatitis and related hepatocellular carcinoma. The candidate should be familiar with a variety of techniques including molecular and cell biology, functional omics, genome-wide techniques, high-throughput screen technologies, chemical biology, and cell culture and animal models. The incumbent will have a major role in assisting the Principal Investigator in project management, manuscript preparation, experimental design, training of junior fellows, providing technical assistance, and maintaining research continuity within LDVS. Staff Scientists do not receive independent resources, but they often work independently, lead research projects, and have sophisticated research skills and experience in training junior scientists.

The candidate should have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD with an extensive scientific background in virology and cell biology and a minimum of 5 years of postdoctoral training in related fields. Experience in bioinformatics is desirable. Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing, is required. Salary is commensurate with research experience and accomplishments.
