The Laboratory of Malaria Immunology and Vaccinology (LMIV), Division of Intramural Research (DIR), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), is soliciting applications for a staff clinician in the area of malaria vaccine development.
LMIV conducts basic and translational research in malaria immunology and pathogenesis, develops and produces prototype malaria vaccines, and conducts early-phase clinical trials of promising vaccine candidates.
LMIV is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated staff clinician to join the clinical team in developing and implementing U.S. and international clinical trial programs. The LMIV portfolio of clinical activities includes Phase I studies of LMIV vaccines and experimental human infection studies in the United States and in Africa, as well as Phase IIb studies in Africa. International collaborations and clinical sites are active at several centers in Africa. The available position offers responsibility for international collaboration, investigational agent development, and partnership with LMIV staff and medical teams at the study sites. The selected candidate will join the LMIV clinical trials unit and interact with LMIV scientists, medical review boards, and regulatory offices. The ideal candidate will have experience in the conduct of clinical trials under FDA guidelines, preferably with experience in the developing world; protocol development and preparation; interaction with ethical review boards and regulatory agencies; data and adverse event monitoring; and final study report preparation.
Minimum of at least 2 years’ experience in the design and execution of investigational vaccine trials in healthy subjects is required.
The successful applicant must have an M.D. or equivalent and board certification. Internal medicine/infectious disease physicians are encouraged to apply. An ideal candidate will have experience in clinical research and/or in conducting clinical trials. In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements for credentialing to practice as a staff physician in the NIH Clinical Center.
Salary will be commensurate with research experience and accomplishments. Appointment includes federal employee benefits.
