Specialist – Science Project Manager

Working with QBI Director Nevan Krogan, the scientific project coordinator for the QBI Coronavirus Research Group (QCRG) will manage the collaborative research efforts of over 140 scientists, plus global collaborators, focused on the identification of the cellular factors hijacked by SARS-CoV-2 and other coronaviruses and possible druggable targets. QCRG consists of multiple subgroups, focusing on specific aspects of the projects, e.g. structural biology, metabolism etc. The position will track progress toward project goals of subgroups and the QCRG as a whole, facilitate coordination among the various QCRG projects, evaluate project data and results, report project status to QCRG leadership and identify funding mechanisms. You will also be involved in identification of new funding opportunities, the submission of new project proposals, and the coordination of preparing manuscripts. This positions will eventually transition into managing other larger collaborative QBI projects with a special focus on coordinated pandemic response.

The QCRG is a special coronavirus/COVID-19 task force within the Quantitative Biosciences Institute of the School of Pharmacy at UCSF. In our research, we use systems biology approaches to tackle a variety of human diseases by investigating the underlying basic biological mechanisms. We strongly believe that the best science will be done by a diverse set of scientists who attack a given problem from different angles. As a result, the QBI focuses on large collaborative research efforts, with partners across various departments at UCSF plus other universities, institutes, and industry.

The ideal candidate should be independent, a self-starter with a can- do attitude and someone who likes to suggest new approaches when needed. Finally, all QBI-UCSF employees are obligated to meet the highest standards with respect to accuracy, conflict of interest, intellectual property rights, slander, confidentiality and respect for information sources and readers.
