Earth System Model (ESM) simulations with complex chemistry and at very high spatial resolutions pose high technical hurdles (“Frontiers”) which need to be overcome in the exascale computing race and in order to solve the grand challenges that society faces. You will enable “frontier” simulations of atmospheric composition with the cutting-edge supercomputers being built at FZJ. Your tasks in detail:
Porting Fortran code for use on GPUsCode vectorization of chemical ODE solvers (Ordinary Differential Equations)Implementation and use of existing parallel and asynchronous I/O strategiesPerformance Analysis and Load Balancing of Earth System Model SimulationsData management according to FAIR principles
a completed university degree (Bachelor) in computer science or a comparable qualification experience in Earth System ModellingWell-founded knowledge in code development and maintenance Knowledge of High Performance Computing (HPC)Knowledge of Fortran, Python, CUDA, OpenMP, etc.High level of initiative, responsibility and team spiritGood knowledge of English
the chance of collaborating with a team of motivated scientists, technicians and international partnersthe chance of creating new technological solutionsthe support for professional development via participation to national and international conferences and advanced trainings Exciting working environment on an attractive research campus with excellent infrastructure, located between the cities of Cologne, Düsseldorf, and Aachen Flexible working hours and various opportunities to reconcile work and private life Limited for 2 years with possible longer-term prospects Full-time position with the option of slightly reduced working hours Salary and social benefits in conformity with the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service (TVöD)
Forschungszentrum Jülich wants to increase female staff in this field. We are therefore particularly interested in the application of women. We also welcome applications from disabled persons.
