Senior Scientific Officer
Mitochondrial Oncogenetics Laboratory (Dr Payam Gammage)
Starting Salary from £24,776 to £41,536 (Depending on experience)
The Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute in Glasgow supports cutting edge research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development and is one of the leading research institutes in Europe. The Institute provides an outstanding research environment, underpinned by state-of-the-art core services and advanced technologies, with special emphasis on imaging, metabolomics, and in vivo models.
Our innovative and ambitious research themes focus on understanding the regulation of the tumour microenvironment and cancer metabolism, in particular:
· Intrinsic cancer cell vulnerabilities
· Interplay between the tumour microenvironment, metastasis and recurrence
· Biology of early disease, aimed at developing a ‘Precision Prevention’ approach
We are looking to appoint a dedicated researcher as a Senior Scientific Officer (SSO) in the Mitochondrial Oncogenetics group, headed by Dr Payam Gammage, who is interested in the role of mitochondrial genetics and metabolism in cancer initiation and progression. You will assist in running research projects on the role of mtDNA in cancer in vitro and in vivo. You will both drive your own projects and participate in collaborative research projects, contributing experimentally and intellectually. The post includes hands-on research and lab-management tasks.
You will have a relevant degree or PhD with a record of significant research experience in cell and molecular biology and in vivo models. Excellent organisational and communication skills together with previous experience of cancer research is essential and experience of training/mentorship or lab management is desirable.
