Description

The DEWA R&D Center is looking to fill the vacancy of a senior researcher to lead the Distributed Generation and Storage research program. The senior researcher tasks include: developing and conducting research in related areas, contributing in the formation of the overall strategy of the Smart Grid research program, supervising and mentoring junior researchers in developing their research activities, and coordinating with other researchers for developing joint interdisciplinary research efforts.

The Smart Grid Integration Research Area scope encompasses the following fields: (i) power systems and smart charging infrastructure (power electronics, renewables integration, transmission and distribution, electric vehicle charging), (ii) Utility-scale Storage (techno-economics of storage solutions, storage integration, storage ancillary services, end-of-life assessment), (iii) Utility Intelligent Grids, Grid Digitalization and Distributed Resources (planning and design, virtual power plants, orchestration of distributed energy resources, operations and control strategies, security and regulations, blockchain integration, demand response).

The ideal candidate would have extensive research experience (more than 8 years of active research in academic and/or industrial organizations) in one or more of these areas. The research activity should be demonstrated by a strong publication record and a record of competitively obtaining, managing and delivering research projects in the field. The candidate should be comfortable working as member of a dynamic, research-oriented group with several ongoing concurrent projects across multiple areas but also manage individual tasks independently. Thinking out of the box and comfort in bridging cross-disciplinary silos to conduct innovative research are strongly desirable qualities.


Contract Duration: 6 years with potential for extension

Preferred Qualifications
  • Scopus-indexed publication record commensurate to the experience.
  • IP record.
  • Demonstrable experience of obtaining competitive funding.
  • Leadership position experience.

Basic Qualifications
  • PhD in a related discipline e.g. Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical and Computer Science Engineering.
  • Eight (8) years of industrial and/or research experience in the field.
