Senior Research Associate – Chemical Biology and Molecular Cell Biology of Cancer

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join our team to investigate novel methods to degrade centrosome clustering proteins in cancer cells.
This is a 24-month fixed-term position in the first instance, with the possibility for extension. The project is funded by a North West Cancer Research Cancer Discovery grant, jointly awarded to Dr Morgan Gadd and Dr Andrew Fielding in the Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences at Lancaster University, UK. It is titled “Small molecule induced degradation of centrosome clustering proteins: development of a novel, cancer-specific therapeutic approach.”
You will utilise cutting-edge genetics and chemical biology methods in order to target key centrosome clustering proteins. In particular you will be responsible for designing proteolysis-targeting chimaeras (PROTACs) that will cause degradation of their protein target. These developments will lead to a greater understanding of how targeting these proteins are relevant to the biology of cancers of prominence in the North West, as well as provide the first steps towards discovering therapeutically relevant degraders for our promising targets.
• A PhD awarded (or soon to be awarded) in a relevant field.
• A strong background in chemical biology and/or molecular and cell biology.
• Some experience in synthetic or medicinal chemistry.
• Experience with mammalian cell culture, plasmid design and CRISPR.
• An interest in targeted protein degradation and/or cancer drug discovery would be advantageous.
• Ability to solve problems creatively and plan and work independently, but also work in and/or manage a team when required.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, both for communicating within the scientific community and to various audiences in the community as a part of outreach activities.
