The Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE) at Linkoping University’s campus in Norrkoping is expanding in the area of organic chemistry. Specifically, LOE is recruiting a Senior Lecturer (equivalent to Associate Professor) in organic chemistry related to organic electronic materials and devices.
At LOE we explore organic electronic molecules and polymers targeting medical, energy, and internet-of-things applications. Examples include applying organic materials and electronics to biological systems, targeting sensor and actuator technology to combat disorders and diseases of the peripheral and central nervous systems, as well as complexing electroactive organic materials to biomaterials from the forest to achieve electro-active paper and electronic plants. Our research topics include synthesis, material science, theory and modeling, component and system design, spanning from basic research to commercialization. LOE works in close collaboration with the Swedish research institute RISE Acreo, especially in commercialization and high-throughput activities. LOE currently comprises ~100 researchers and research students divided into ten units. Learn more at www.liu.se/loe.
The position involves leading and developing synthesis and material development activities aimed at applications in bioelectronics and energy technology. Two main directions of material development are of particular importance for the position:
i) Design and synthesis of organic materials for sensor and actuator technology to combat peripheral and central nervous system disorders and diseases.
ii) Design and synthesis of electro-active organic materials that can be combined with biomaterials from the forest to achieve electroactive paper and electronic components for applications in future energy conversion and storage technologies as well as in the agricultural industry. Specific material development includes optimization of efficiency for electrocatalysis, energy conversion and conductivity, and promoting complex formation with components of the nervous system, plants and wood.
The design of organic molecules to explore signal transduction for sensors and actuators is also of interest.
The duties assigned to teaching staff may comprise educational responsibilities or research, and administrative tasks. Teachers are also responsible for monitoring developments within their subject areas and developments in the wider community that are significant to their role as a teacher at a higher education institution. The holder of the appointment will participate in teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels.
The duties for this position are mainly to lead research, carry out research and lead a research group, with a small proportion of teaching that is mainly expected to take place at the advanced level. The teaching will mainly be in English.
The Senior Lecturer will receive start-up funding and projects for an initial phase of three years, including funding and guidance of doctoral students and / or postdoctoral fellows, but is expected to seek their own funding. The Senior Lecturer is expected to interact with already existing research groups and researchers at LOE, contributing to the LOE environment.
To be qualified for this appointment the applicant must have demonstrated teaching proficiency, received a Degree of Doctor or have the equivalent academic expertise or other professional skill which is of significance with consideration for the subject relevant to the appointment and the associated duties.
Here, the definition of “equivalent academic expertise” is a documented foreign degree which is deemed to be at least equivalent to a Degree of Doctor.
The definition of “other professional skill” is relevant professional skill gained outside of higher education. Other professional skill can only be considered as a ground for eligibility in the case of an appointment for which the successful candidate is to be active in professional education and training in which proven experience is essential.
Grounds for assessment
As grounds for assessment when appointing a Senior Lecturer, the level of proficiency required to qualify for the appointment shall apply.
As much attention shall be given to the assessment of teaching proficiency as to other conditions of eligibility.
For this position special weight is given to scholarly proficiency.
Scholarly proficiency must have been demonstrated through (i) original research resulting in publication, (ii) planning and managing research and third-cycle courses and study programmes, and (iii) the ability to obtain research grants. Scholarly proficiency can also be demonstrated through the ability to achieve results in research through collaboration with other teachers and through the ability to provide information about research.
Teaching proficiency is demonstrated through the ability to convey relevant knowledge and skills, to stimulate students such that they drive their own learning process, to create engagement and interest in the subject area, and the ability to structure and organise both the content and forms of work in relation to the goals of the subject area. In addition, the teaching proficiency must have been demonstrated through the ability to contribute to the development and renewal of education and the ability to reflect on their own attitude to education and the results of their work.
Collaboration within research is demonstrated by the ability to disseminate, make accessible and benefit from research through the production and dissemination of popular scientific material, collaborative projects with external non-academic actors, commissioned consulting as expert, mobility projects, commercialisation, and activities undertaken within the framework of permitted secondary employment.
The applicant should also be able to teach in English. It is desirable that the successful candidate with a mother tongue other than Swedish should be able to teach in Swedish within two years from being appointed.
Form of employment
