At its Zeuthen location, DESY has a strong focus on astroparticle physics (https://astro.desy.de). In particular, we are a lead participant in CTA (www.cta-observatory.org) and other gamma-ray telescopes.
Lead science exploitation of existing and future gamma-ray instrumentsLeading role in development of instrumentation for gamma-ray astronomyLead contributions to institute’s preparation efforts for the CTA observatory, in particular in the online and control software project ACADALead role in and coordination of Human Machine Interface software of CTACode development and software quality assuranceSoftware integration and commissioning in the CTA ACADA team
PhD in astronomy, astroparticle physics, or high-energy physics or equivalent qualificationExperience in and excellent knowledge of high-energy astrophysicsExperience in analysis data from and / or developing instruments for large astronomical projectsExcellent skills in object-oriented programming (e.g. C++, Java, Python) and scripting languagesProfound experience in developing graphical user interfacesGood knowledge of English and the willingness to learn GermanExperience working in large collaborationsWillingness to participate in expert and working meetings and conferences abroad
Salary and benefits are commensurate with those of public service organisations in Germany. Classification is based upon qualifications and assigned duties.
