DESY is one of the world’s leading research centres for photon science, particle and astroparticle physics as well as accelerator physics. More than 2400 employees work at our two locations Hamburg and Zeuthen in science, technology and administration.

The Experiment Control Group of the Photon Science Department at DESY supports beamlines at the X-ray laser FLASH and the synchrotron radiation source PETRA III. The work can be divided into online computing, scientific software, digital user office, data management, OS and hardware support, general user support and electronics. Currently the activities are focussed on developments for the experiments of PETRA III.

Development of analysis tools in an experimental physics environmentDevelopment of new algorithms for near real-time and off-line applicationsIntegration of tools in high performance computing systems


University degree in Computer Science, Physics or a related subjectExcellent knowledge in object-oriented software development and designAppropriate programming abilities in C++ and PythonExperience in high performance computing is appreciated

Salary and benefits are commensurate with those of public service organisations in Germany. Classification is based upon qualifications and assigned duties.
