Scientific Project Managers

The DKFZ scientists perform world-class research of international repute in all areas of cancer, using state-of-the-art technical facilities. The DKFZ collaborates closely with other partners and networks of universities, research institutes, and industry throughout Europe, as well as worldwide. These scientific partnerships stimulate an intensive exchange of ideas that is essential in order to carry out excellent research.

Within the scope of its international activities, the DKFZ is participating in a large European collaborative project,, that is embedded in Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and the Horizon Europe Mission on Cancer. The aims of this project are to elucidate factors leading to cancer that until now have not been clearly understood and to carry out a needs assessment for developing innovative models, tools, and technologies. Through consultations with a wide diversity of European stakeholders over an initial period of 15 months, the project will formulate a common strategic research agenda.

The DKFZ is seeking two project managers to assist in implementing the project during the initial phase from September 2022 until November 2023, with the option of extending the positions if the project is positively evaluated.

Job description:
As project manager, you will work closely together with the scientific coordinator of the DKFZ sub-projects in, the DKFZ coordinator for international cooperation as well as the DKFZ Grants Office. The positions will provide an outstanding opportunity to gain experience in the management of large, international collaborative projects.

Your duties:
- Design and preparation of innovative analytical tools as well as their implementation in order to assess the status quo and future needs for a cancer research data platform
- Planning and organization of international workshops and video conferences with the consortium partners and other stakeholders
- Documentation, synthesis and publication of the accumulated findings and insights

- University degree in the life sciences or other field of science, including medicine; a doctoral degree is desirable
- High degree of organizational talent and efficiency
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team, strong social skills, friendly manner
- Excellent skills in the usual office software
- Excellent oral and written proficiency in English and German
- Proven skills and experience in scientific writing, e.g., dissertation, publications, grant applications, etc.
