The Emory University School of Medicine and Winship Cancer Institute (Winship) are seeking applications for the Scientific Director of Prostate and Genito-urinary (GU) Cancer Research at Winship Cancer Institute and appointment as the Fray F. Marshall, MD Chair of Biomedical Urologic Research in the Department of Urology.
The Fray F. Marshall, MD Chair of Biomedical Urologic Research is supported by an endowment honoring Dr. Fray Marshall, esteemed leader in urological oncology who was the inaugural chairman of the Emory Department of Urology from 1998 until his untimely passing in 2011. Dr. Marshall’s intent was for this endowment to support a leader in translational urological oncology research. Accordingly, eligible candidates will have Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree(s) and be established Principal Investigators in any of a variety of academic backgrounds – e.g. Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Cell Biology, Genetics, Immunology, Informatics, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology or other scientific disciplines that are integral to biomedical translational cancer research. The Search Committee is seeking candidates who demonstrate:
- The capability to lead a translational research program that aims to transform our understanding of cancer biology and to enable new approaches for prevention, detection or treatment of prostate cancer or other urological malignancies
- A track-record of scientific discovery and accomplishment relevant to prostate cancer or other urological cancers
- Eligibility for academic appointment as Professor or Associate Professor with tenure at Emory University School of Medicine
- Established excellence in mentorship of trainees or junior faculty
- Ongoing leadership of contemporary scientific investigation and innovation.

Appointment of this position is accompanied by expansion of Winship Cancer Institute’s research in prostate and urological cancers and Emory’s Department of Urology, which under the leadership of the Martin G. Sanda, MD, Chair of Urology and Director of Winship’s Prostate and GU Oncology Program, has expanded to 25 faculty in Urology and a Winship-wide team of 12 externally funded faculty PI’s as well as a multidisciplinary team of clinicians that lead Winship’s enrollment in clinical research studies. As Scientific Director of this team, the Fray Marshall Chair will lead additional tenured and/or tenure-track research faculty recruitments.
