Salary: Grade 7: £32,236 - £39,609 p.a.

Applications are invited for the position of a Research Software Engineer/Database Programmer to join Musculoskeletal Pharmaco- and Device epidemiology research group led by Professor Daniel Prieto-Alhambra at the Botnar Research Centre, Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS), Oxford.


As a Research Software Engineer/Database Programmer you will develop new web and/or non-web database applications for big clinical data, you will carry out software improvement, extension, integration and further development on existing code as well as develop code to validate, test, document and maintain database application software. You will undertake necessary research to identify, develop or customise appropriately software applications and you will represent the project, team, and the University in collaboration meetings, conferences and at external meetings.


You will hold a degree in computer science, software engineering, health informatics or an equivalent combination of training and professional experience. Demonstrable experience of developing from medium to high software solutions to design, code, test and document programs or scripts following agreed specifications. Experience in one or more RDBMSs and SQL dialects (e.g. MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL) and an excellent skills in at least one high level programming language (e.g. Python, PHP, C++, etc.) are essential. Master or PhD (doctorate) degree in computer science, software engineering, medical informatics or equivalent, significant experience of developing software in Python as well as experience in big data management are desirable.


This is a full-time fixed-term appointment for 2 years.
