Research Scientist, Sudden Death Research Center, The Smidt Heart Institute
The Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center invites applications for a Research Scientist position to join the newly established Sudden Death Research Center within the Cedars-Sinai Smidt Heart Institute, directed by Dr Sumeet Chugh (http://www.cedars- sinai.edu/Research/Research-Labs/Chugh-Lab/index.aspx)
Candidates should have previous training in epidemiology ideally with experience in biostatistics. A degree of PhD or MD or MPH or equivalent is required. Rank of appointment will be based on skills and qualifications of the applicant. Preference will be given to candidates with research experience in cardiovascular disease. Preference will also be given to candidates with a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Primary responsibilities of this position are to work with a multi-disciplinary group taking a translational approach to prediction and prevention of sudden cardiac arrest. Responsibilities may include co-mentoring and supervision of research trainees at various levels. The successful applicant will be encouraged to develop and/or grow an independent academic career pathway. Accordingly, an academic “package” will be provided commensurate with stage of career, including opportunity for faculty appointment at Cedars-Sinai and UCLA.
A successful candidate will have: clear oral and written communication skills; experience managing and analyzing clinical data from population-based studies; and the ability to work with a research team that includes clinicians, epidemiologists, geneticists, and laboratory scientists.
