The James (www.james-lab.org) and Rawlings labs at Seattle Children’s Research Institute are hiring motivated scientists to join a rapidly expanding research program focused on B cell engineering (PMID 29273498). The ultimate goal of the B cell engineering group is to develop novel cell therapies that provide sustained production of therapeutic proteins from gene-edited, adoptively transferred, autologous plasma B cells.
For this position, we are seeking a highly motivated aspiring molecular biologist to participate in projects in the primary B cell engineering and differentiation sub-group. This is a unique type of position that requires significant individual initiative and motivation to learn and understand both existing and new scientific methods and knowledge within the B cell engineering subspecialty.
The applicant will collaborate with senior scientists and the principal investigators to plan, execute and interpret experiments. The applicant will be required to independently select and apply standardized scientific procedures, contribute to the design and planning of experiments, troubleshoot experiments, make detailed observations, record data and assist in the preparation of reports, papers and presentations.
Eventually, the research scientist may participate in the guidance/mentoring of junior staff. In this role, the research scientist will spend the majority of their time focusing on molecular and cell biology applications, but may also spend some time participating in rodent experiments.
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or scientific discipline; may require a Master’s Degree for certain lab specialties
- Minimum to two (2) year’s experience in a related area/laboratory setting.
- Master’s Degree in molecular biology is highly preferred
- Significant experience conducting research using molecular biology
- Some experience with laboratory management.
- Evidence of recent publication
